Job Summary

This role involves managing a variety of vendor dining and retail programs, specifically designed to offer new services to Microsoft employees. As a General Manager, you'll be responsible for overseeing a complex account with a high volume of transactions, ensuring that both budget and client expectations are met. Maintain strong relationships with all stakeholders, guaranteeing the quality, safety, and satisfaction of the services provided. Financial and contractual performance of the account is also under your purview, along with coordinating the operations of the dining service department, local brands, retail services, and leased spaces. This position requires a proactive approach to financial and operational planning, performance monitoring, and maintaining service standards and contractual compliance. Additionally, you'll be responsible for maintaining product and service quality standards, establishing a proactive human resource function, and managing financial reporting. It's a role that demands excellent communication skills, financial acumen, and the ability to respond effectively to customer complaints and operational challenges.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Create financial and operational plans for the unit and the annual budget

  • Monitor the performance of the unit and customer satisfaction systems and take corrective actions

  • Manage on-site operational support of East Campus vendors, Rotating Brands, Food Trucks, Commons, RTS, Retail & Services in adherence to contractual obligations

  • Maintain vendor hours, service standards, and contractual compliance

  • Help with temporary food service plans and contingency procedures for events or vendor exits

  • Track Health Department Permit and score, check-in and QA audit procedures

  • Conduct Quarterly Business Reviews and complete quarterly vendor KPIs

  • Assist vendors with resources, internet connectivity, financial compliance, POS troubleshooting, etc.

  • Track vendor performance and help with mitigation strategies

  • Complete regular operational excellence walkthroughs and report results

  • Monitor inbox and respond to emails courteously and timely

  • Maintains product and service quality standards and investigates complaints

  • Establishes and maintains a proactive human resource function and a preventative maintenance program

  • Maintains a security function for the assets, employees, and customers

  • Implements and maintains effective two-way communication systems

  • Develops new programs for customer satisfaction and operational excellence

  • Manages in compliance with Company policies and procedures and local, state, and federal laws and regulations

  • Establishes and maintains good rapport with staff, client, guests, and other departments

  • Manages financial reporting, sales reports, P&L reports, budgets, and cash handling

  • Analyzes and creates trends for financial data

  • Ensures timely meal service to all service areas and supervises serving of meals

  • Responds to customer complaints according to MS Dining protocol

  • Trains employees in their job duties and expedites workflow

  • Utilizes Compass Owners Manager Suit and manual systems for reports, inventory, payroll, etc.

  • Identifies when escalation is necessary and handles issues as they arise

  • Manages purchasing and inventory controls

  • Implements Inclement Weather process and documentation

  • Maintains clean and safe work environment and performs job safely

  • Plans menus with Culinary and Operations teams

  • Is knowledgeable on HACCP controls and proper food storage and use

  • Develops sanitation schedule and ensures adherence by food service employees

  • Other tasks may be assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent professional experience

  • Eight to ten years of upscale food service and/or complex retail operations experience, including six years at the management level.

  • Highly desirable to have both a food service and retail background.

  • Experience in personnel management including hiring, supervision, evaluation, and succession planning.

  • Proven track record to achieve company financial goals as well as client satisfaction.

  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to speak, read, and write English at an advanced level for effective communication, email, and customer interaction.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

  • Experience with suite M365 products.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions.

  • Understanding of accounting and financial functions and ability to complete paperwork involving payroll, inventory, and other operational data.

  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Problem Solving & Judgment:

  • Ability to think quickly and accurately, showing initiative and sound judgment.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be a team player with excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects.

  • Ability to handle last-minute changes.

  • Must show initiative and judgment when working with clients during events to resolve problems and address issues.

  • Must possess a valid Food Handler's Permit and current Serv Safe Certification.
